A few changes...

So, I'm going to change the direction of my blog just a little bit. I am officially 15 weeks pregnant and expecting in May! Ryan and I are really excited. I'm still crossfitting, which has kept me from being so tired I can't function all the time. I've had to cut back a little bit, but I'm still pumping out pull ups, push ups, and box jumps like I was before. I figure if I can make it through a crossfit workout, labor might not be so bad :)

I've tried not to go wild with my eating, doc said I should only gain about 25lbs throughout the pregnancy. Plus, I want to eat well for the baby. So each meal, I try eat fiber, fruits/veggies, protein (this is tougher since I can't eat turkey sandwiches for lunch). I'm still giving myself what I want, but mixing it up seems to help. I'm also not nearly as hungry as I thought I would be. I mean, I don't eat like double what I used to eat. It's actually pretty normal.

You know it's bad when....

pull ups and sit ups are your recovery!! That was my quote of the day from today's CF Sugarland WOD. It was a good one though! I've been doing a good job of working out almost every day and recently I have started *trying* to play tennis. I like sports and I need something new to learn. It humbles me to try and learn something new.

Starting zoning again, well, kind of. I'm starting with zoning during the day and then relaxing a little bit at dinner. I even tried beef jerky the other day, something I never thought would happen....it was pretty good!

I'm leaving today for a short trip to California and will be back next week. Flying to Sacramento, down to San Fran for a day, then on to Carmel for a few days. Nice and relaxing, because when I get back, I have to report back to school. I can't believe the summer is already over! That's when I start my early AM workouts!! *cue the threatening music* I'm not a morning person, but the more I think about it, the better it would be. Then I make sure I get in my workout for the day....before life gets in the way!

Yeah for me!

This weekend was a blast! My wonderful husband took me to San Antonio for the weekend. We stayed at La Mansion and went to a fabulous dinner on Saturday night.

The restaurant was called "Biga on the Banks", located on the Riverwalk. It was pricey, but totally worth it. We both ordered beef tenderloin, but our waiter was having non of that, so he basically put together an "experience" for us (if you knew me, you'd know that I am not a very adventurous eater....I just ate my first fish meal a couple months ago!). So, he started bringing out different appetizers and salads. My first were two pork tenderloins cooked in a spicy Asian inspired sauce. Then he gave me a lettuce wrap...chicken you might think...but no...it was filled with cashews, ostrich, buffalo, and vennison! I ate it and I LOVED IT!! Best lettuce wrap I ever had :) Then I had a spinach salad with roasted quail on top...again, not something I would ever THINK about eating, but it wasn't that bad.

I realized this weekend, that I don't need to eat tons of junky foods. I wish I could eat every night like I did on Sat. but that is not possible until I win the lottery or something :)  I decided that I am going to recommit to zoning and see how it goes. It's going to be rocky at first. I think I'm going to phase into it...dinner probably won't be a 'zone' meal, but my goal is that all my eating during the day will be. Dinner will be eyeballed, but my husband is not a zoner and he still likes his carbs!  AND I'm going to treat myself to a bit of ice cream every night!

Today, I got  up and worked out at 7:15 this morning. I have another goal, which is to workout before work when school starts! That involves getting up at 5am to make it to workout by 5:15. I'm the person who sleeps until the last possible moment....but I want to do this.

Hello Dolly....

It's been raining pretty much all week because of Hurricane Dolly, so we had to cancel crossfit classes at CF Sugarland. I decided to take yesterday off, but Wednesday I made up my own WOD and it was a killer!! It involved a lot of running and burpees!

Eating well has been non existent this week. Let's just say I had a record of Chick-fil-a for 4 days straight and then I topped it off with Wendy's the next day. It's a wonder I don't blow up to 150 lbs. Part of it is motivation and the other part is that I'm really grossed out by the things I used to eat. It's quite odd. For example, I used to LOVE making eggs, a piece of toast, cup of fruit, almonds, with a bit of butter for my toast. Now the thought of eating that makes me want to puke. I buy fruit at the store, with the intentions of eating it, but alas, a week or two later its gone bad in the fridge. I'm actually wanting more meat now...meat and sugar....GREAT eating plan!!!

On a happy note, it's my 5th Wedding anniversary!!! Ryan is taking me somewhere for the weekend, but it's a surprise. I'm excited, this is the first time he has ever planned something for us to do. I'm usually in on the planning, so this is a welcome break.

Summer....

So, I've been relaxing most of the summer and not too keen on keeping up with things! I took about a month break from crossfitting and I've been getting back in the swing of things over the last three weeks or so. I think I needed the lay off. I also, not intentionally,  laid off on my eating. That's harder to get back on track than anything else. I'm trying to take it one thing at a time. First is getting back into my workouts, then the eating will come ( I hope!).  Money's been kind of tight, so that makes eating healthy that much harder...I'm not spending as much on buying fresh organic fruits and veggies, milk, etc. It's just too easy to make a pot of spaghetti, or a PBJ sandwich for lunch with a few chips. It's really annoying, actually.

My workout buddy and friend, Grace, has just opened up Crossfit Sugarland. It's rockin and rollin! I'm planning on helping out some with some of the classes. Here's a pic of my playing around!image.html.jpg

TGIF...

I'm in a much better place than I was on Tuesday...maybe because it's Friday :)

I'm not as much in the zone this week as I was last week. I let myself have a little slack and I have of course taken it too far! Nothing too bad, just the occasional cookie here and there, and more starchy carbs than I did the first two weeks.

I need to look around for some more dinner ideas. That's what's been getting me this week. We've met people for dinner or gone to other's houses for dinner and it's been hard to eat right when the choices are limited.

WODs this week are rockin and rollin! I DL'd today and hit 225 for 3 with 8 HSPU right after. I really need to work on deadlifts. They are not my strength. I'm not a fan of the slower lifts. I LOVE cleans, jerks, and snatches...but give me squats or deadlifts and I am not a happy camper. Since I dislike them so much, I guess that means they need the most work!

Blah...

It's been that kind of day. Unfortunately, I've been cranky all day and can't seem to snap out of it. Maybe it's because I didn't eat well at all today. I'm not even going to tell you what I ate...it wasn't much of anything good. I pretty much just gave up today :( Where's the willpower?

I'll get back on the wagon tomorrow. Who knew this was going to be such a struggle for me? I wish I could just say no...why do I feel like if I turn this food down, I'll never ever get to eat it again. It's some sort of mechanism in my brain....

That's about it today...just wanted to get that off my chest...

Monday, Monday...la, la, la, la,la...

It's my last full week of school before we're out for the summer!!!! Yahooooooo!!!

I tried to eat clean today, after a weekend of "loose" zoning....and when I say  loose, I mean McDonald's and some pasta and bread....gulp...my small victory today was that I had a small cookie at school, so to balance it out, I cut out my carb blocks at lunch and cut down my fat blocks by 1.5. I had the cookie right before lunch, so I kind of figured it for my lunch.

B- 2 eggs, 2 egg whites
1 c strawberries
6 almonds
1 slice Ezekiel bread
1/3 tsp butter
L - cookie :(
3 oz extra lean brisket
1 oz 2% milk cheese
1/3 fruit cocktail
3 almonds
S#1 - 3 cashews
1/2 c lowfat plain yogurt flavored with a pinch of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (never done that before...it was an interesting taste...)
S#2 - 1 oz dark chocolate
D - 4 oz grilled chicken
2 c steamed broccoli with 1/3 tsp EVOO
1/3 c high protein pasta tossed with EVOO and pepper
It really is true that if you eat the protein and veggies first, then you are too full to eat the "unfavorable" carbs. I budgeted for one more block of the pasta and I ended up only eating half of what was on my plate. After gobbling up the pasta and broccoli, I couldn't finish all the pasta. I'm planning on a 1 block snack before bed...maybe some dark chocolate....mmmm...that sounds good!

WOD for today is in my CF log...here's the link: http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=29691&page=9

It was a toughie today....I did weighted pull ups with a kettlebell in my back pack. The weight was distributed awkwardly, so it made it a bit harder.

It's been a busy week!

So...it's been a few days since I posted anything in my little world :) I did pretty good with zoning the week. I did have a birthday celebration for my mother in law on Thursday, so I indulged in some cake and dessert :) But my doctor also confirmed that I need to stay in the Zone...so alas, my little experiment is becoming a lifestyle change.

Last night my wonderful husband took me out on a date!!! I got to get dressed up and everything!!

This morning Grace, Shawn, Jocelle, and I went to CF The Woodlands for a free Saturday workout. It was great! They just opened up a new place and we did an inaugural Fight Gone Bad....both my pleasure and my pain!!! Three rounds of pain...I managed to beat my total from my last FGB in April. I went up from 277 to 323!! Wohoo!!!!

Tomorrow will be a rest day, as I am going to College Station to watch my sister play softball!!

Not quite hump day...

Today was probably my best zone day thus far! I managed to eat all the blocks I planned throughout the day and even stayed in the zone at La Madeline!
Breakfast - 2 whole eggs, 2 egg whites, 1 c strawberries, 1 piece ezekiel bread toast with 1/3 tsp butter, 6 almonds
Snack - 1/4 c cottage cheese, 1/2 pineapple, 3 almonds
Lunch - South Beach turkey wrap thing (2 small tortillas, 1 oz cheese, 2 oz turkey, 2 tsp bacon bits, 3 tsp light mayo), 1/3 c fruit cocktail
Snack -green tea, 3 almonds, 1 oz cheese, 1/2 apple
Snack after workout - Luna Bar
Dinner - 4 oz chicken breast (with mushroom cream sauce), 1 c broccoli, 1 c green beans, 1 slice bread w/ 1/3 tsp butter
Dessert - 1/2 oz dark chocolate

WOD today was OH Squat 3-3-3-3-3
I managed to go 85-95-105-115-130(f)-125
I had to have a very light spot at 125, so not too bad. There is a funny story from the gym that I will post at a later time...it involves a guy not wanting to "do any work" while spotting me!

Only 16 days of school left! Although we found out today that the A/C at school is broken and it will be 3-4 weeks before it is fixed! Not good....especially since it's supposed to get back up around 90 later this week!! At least the kids will be lethargic from the heat...maybe it will calm them down a little bit :)

Someone's Got a Case of the Mundays.....

Begin week 2 in the Zone....(cue scary music now...)

Breakfast - 1/3 oatmeal
1 tsp flax meal
1c strawberries
1 oz cheese
1 pint milk
6 almonds
I had one more protein, but i can't remember what it was....
Lunch - 1 cup homemade chicken tortilla soup (no tortillas in it...)
1 corn tortilla brushed with EVOO and baked to make chips
1 oz cheese

Snack - 2 fun size snickers (i hit a wall around 2:30pm)
3 almonds
Snack (after workout) - Zone Perfect bar... not a big fan...I tried it, but I think I like Luna Bars better
Dinner - 1/4 tortellini with tomato sauce
2c romaine lettuce
1 oz parmesan cheese
1 tbsp caesar vinegarette
1 c broccoli
Dessert - 1 oz dark chocolate

Kicking this sugar thing is ALOT harder than I thought it would be. I wish I had the discipline to actually do it. My sugar intake is much better than it used to be, but I've got to stop eating the sugary candy stuff....not sure how to do this!

Did Fran today with Dustin and Grace at the park. Not too bad, considering I was dog tired! I posted a time of 4:59! That's about 5:15 faster than my first Fran time about 4 weeks ago. It was definitely a lung burner!

Only 17 more days of school left!!! Then it's summer time :) I'm counting down the days.....I'm excited because I'll be making a trip to GSX athletics in Ft. Worth for a Texas affiliate meeting in June...Tucker rocks and I'm super excited to hang out with fellow Crossfitters!

Happy Mother's Day

I took today off from Crossfitting, we took my mother in law out to eat after church and then Ryan and I decided to build a pull up bar to fit in the garage. That was was an adventure!! A few hours later (with a VERY sore arm)...we are almost there! We had some issues with getting our screws all the way in the ceiling joists, so we're going to have to reinforce one side later this week. I did a few kipping pull ups and it did not sound good :)

I did fairly well zoning today. Here's what I had...
Breakfast - 3 blocks
2 egg whites and whole egg scrambled
1 cup strawberries
1 toasted piece Ezekiel Bread
1/3 tsp butter
1 oz string cheese
6 almonds
Lunch - 4 oz grilled chicken
topped with a EVOO/pesto sauce
1 cup broccoli
2 cups caesar salad ( I had a few croutons)
Snack - Luna Bar
Dinner - 1.5 c homemade chicken tortilla soup
1 corn tortilla (rubbed with EVOO and baked to make my own chips!)
2 c romaine lettuce with 1 oz cheese and 1/4 black beans and 1 tbsp spicy ranch dressing
Dessert - 1 oz dark chocolate

I must confess, I did have like 4 pieces of dark chocolate throughout the day today....my sugar craving came back with a vengeance today and I had a tough time fighting it. I even waited 30 min and it was still there!

My goal this week is to be more diligent about measuring EVERY thing out. I ordered Enter the Zone and Mastering the Zone off barnesandnoble.com today, so hopefully they will get here soon!

I LOVE this video...it's totally what I want to be like when I do get pregnant :) It inspires me! It's Annie from CF HQ, doing pull-ups pregnant...rock on!

The never-ending quest....

Today was a good day! I met up with the CF Sugarland group that works out on Saturdays. We had a send off workout for Dustin because he's moving to Lubbock to go to school. Here's what we did..
30-24-18-12-9
Thrusters 45#
100 yard dash
KB Swings (3/4 pood)
50 yard side shuffle
push ups
50 yard side shuffle
1 arm DB snatch
100 yard dash

It was a killer! But at the same time totally awesome :)

After a cheat night last night ( I'm not going to even post how many pieces of bread I had for dinner or the number of chocolate covered strawberries I ate afterwards) I tried to stay pretty strict today.

Breakfast - 1 Luna Bar(it was right before workout)
Lunch - approx 5 oz chicken
1 cup steamed broccoli
1 block thin bread sticks
Snack 2 blocks- 6 almonds
1.7oz reduced fat cheese
1 apple
Snack 1 block - 1 oz skim milk mozzarella string cheese
3 almonds
1/2 c grapes
Dinner  - 4 oz roasted turkey (Boston Market)
  1.5 c green beans
1c mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli, squash, zucchini)
  1 piece cornbread

I don't think dinner was zone perfect, but it was close. I did a good job passing up on the mac and cheese at Boston Market...it's one of my favorites!

It's the small victories...

I managed to make it through teacher appreciation week without falling out of the zone too much! There were desserts, candy, and food that was SOOO hard to resist. I allowed myself to have a couple pieces of candy here and there, but nothing compared to what i would have done if not working hard at Crossfit and trying to eat right.

Here's about what I had today...

Breakfast: 2 egg whites
1/2 c grapes
3 almonds
(I did not intend to have a 1 block "breakfast" but school was hectic this morning and I didn't have time to make my normal oatmeal)
Lunch:  3oz tuna
3tsp light mayo
6 crackers
1/3 fruit cocktail 3 block meal
Throughout the day I had approx 6 starburst fruit chews....
Snack:  1 Luna Bar
Snack: 9 almonds
Dinner: 1/2 c tortilla chips with salsa
1 very large cobb salad (lettuce, chicken, tomatoes, egg, avocado, bacon, honey mustard on the side - I dipped my fork)

Dinner was a major victory tonight! We met friends at a mexican food place and I'm normally the person chowing down in the chips and salsa prior to the meal and then ordering something along the lines of enchiladas and tacos. But I only ate  like 4 chips and controlled myself...not even a taste of the rice and enchiladas my husband was inhaling :)

Tomorrow will be another eating adventure because the teachers on my team are eating at La Madeline for lunch and then I'm going over to my in-laws house for dinner...I think it's meatloaf, potatoes, and something else...

Today was a rest day for me. Tomorrow I'm planning on doing "diane" and probably some other metcon workout....

My 1st Blog

Cool...just seeing what this is all about.

I'm going to use this blog as my Crossfit journal, diet journal, and place for me to share cool stuff with everyone!
